What is TestDrive
The TestDrive system delivers a complete Software Marketing System that is designed to guide an ISVs prospect from first contact through completing a guided demonstration of the software. We do this by bringing together diverse industry-standard systems with ISV software and Runaware’s marketing services and systems.
How does it work?
At a purely functional level (a more technical description can be found here), Runaware hosts a live version of the ISV's software in the cloud. We also embed a carefully crafted walkthrough guide right next to it that shows how the key features work so the software evaluator can start using it immediately--no prior familiarity required. We surround all of that in a ISV-branded "skin" which typically contains call-to-action buttons and other helpful elements, giving a complete live demo experience 24x7.
What technology is your platform based on?
How long does it take to connect to one of your demos?
Usually less than 5 seconds.
What is a Walkthrough Guide?
They are a way for your new leads to quickly use your software without needing any prior knowledge. It's a combination of text and screenshots that sit just to the right of left of the app in TestDrive. The Walkthrough Guide helps evaluators immerse themselves in the software as quickly as possible.
How are Walkthrough Guides different from a tutorial?
Walkthrough Guides are meant to highlight certain unique features your software offers and then provide steps that lead the user through those features immediately. Tutorials typically cover all the features of a product and can be harder for the evaluator to use to immediately evaluate the software.
How long does it take to set up a TestDrive?
It varies but the average time is 4-6 weeks for the TestDrive itself. The Walkthrough Guide creation can be about the same but can vary depending on whether you already have the source content materials ready for it (since that has to come from you as the ISV). Once we have your approved content, building it can take as little as one week.
What are some other uses for TestDrive besides selling software?
Any situation where you want to give someone access to software without making them download it or install it (e.g. you don't want them to have to play with a database install). It's also a great training tool. For example, a University with students who need to work on a software package but, again, the install and configuration can cause friction for the user. ISVs also use it in its other incarnation, BetaDrive, to release beta software.
How much does it cost and what are the pricing factors?
The cost of the TestDrive varies depending on multiple factors. Included in these is how much traffic to the TestDrive is expected, how much disk space is required, and how much memory would be required. Also if the software requires any special hardware, like graphic accelerator cards or 3rd party software to be included and used such as Microsoft Excel. There is an initial set up fee and a monthly hosting fee. A discovery call with an account manager can help narrow this down for you.
Can TestDrives show VMs with multiple applications running.
Yes, TestDrives can show a single application, or multiple applications such as a suite of complementary applications. Complex environments can also be delivered in a TestDrive comprising multiple applications and multiple computers, such as an environment with a Desktop Management Solution on a server and multiple desktops that can be managed.
What operating systems can connect to TestDrives?
Users can connect to TestDrive from just about any client device including Windows PCs, MACs, Linux and many mobile devices. TestDrive supports HTML5 connectivity in recent browsers and has support legacy browsers using Java or Flash.
What kind of software can be hosted?
TestDrive can host just about any software that runs on Windows, Linux, UNIX, in a web browser or on some mobile devices.
Does TestDrive support mobile Devices?
TestDrive supports some mobile devices using it's latest HTML5 connectivity and in some cases Flash. With the number of different versions of mobile devices and their operating systems and browsers, Runaware is constantly adding support for new devices.
How many concurrent users does TestDrive Support?
TestDrive can scale to support hundreds or thousands of concurrent users as needed. Customers TestDrives are configured initially with enough capacity to cope with the expected demand, but that capacity can be increased as needed.
What happens if all the concurrent users are in use and someone else tries to log in?
The user will get a message saying that all the TestDrives are in use and that they will be connected to a TestDrive as soon as one becomes available.
Can my graphic application run in a TestDrive?
Yes. It may require more resources than a typical TestDrive, however. Our sales team can help evaluate the correct resource to make your demo a success.
Is there any redundancy?
Yes! All of our customer's TestDrives are hosted in both our European and US data centers and in most cases on multiple servers within each data center. This means that in the case of a failure, traffic from users will be directed to the alternate data center.
Can my resellers use the TestDrive?
Yes. Our Alliance Program is perfect for that. You can read it about it here or contact Sales for more information.
